Pioneer (2013) - 111 min

Pioneer (Norwegian: Pionér) is a Norwegian thriller film directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg.
Starring Aksel Hennie, Wes Bentley, Stephen Lang, Jonathan LaPaglia & Stephanie Sigman.
Back in the late 1970’s, Norway discovered oil off its coastline and the authorities aim to bring the oil ashore through a pipeline. Offshore diver Petter and his brother Knut are preparing to dive to depths of over 500 meters. But a sudden tragic accident changes everything.
It's a tense conspiracy thriller. The cinematography from Jallo Faber makes the underwater scenes spectacular. Skjoldbjærg did a wonderful job in portraying another real incident. Aksel Hennie is fantastic in his role as Petter and got good support from Wes Bentley, and Jonathan LaPaglia. Overall, it's a watchable thriller from Aksel & Skjoldbjærg.
Verdict: Good

Nokas (2010) - 84 min

Nokas is a Norwegian heist film directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg.
Starring Tov Sletta, Frode Winther Gunnes, Morten Håland, Geir Høyseth & Morten Larsen.
On April 5th, 2004, 11 heavily armed men descended upon the NOKAS cash depot in Stavanger, Norway. The men had given themselves eight minutes to carry out the robbery and take off before the police arrived. But nothing went according to plan.
If you are looking for a realistic robbery movie, Nokas is the answer for it. The film maintains the tension throughout and Skjoldbjaerg recreates the robbery with the inputs from all those who involved in the actual events. Another interesting thing about the film is its cinematography, the way each scene shot in different angles makes the robbery looks real. Overall, it's a nicely executed true story and highly recommended for Robbery/Heist movie fans.

By coincidence, they bump into each other years later, while Ahn's on a mission to follow a Korean scientist who's suspected of selling a deadly virus to the Russians.
The Korean version of Mr & Mrs Smith. The acting is great from Kim Ha-neul and Kang Ji-hwan. The movie is fun, intelligent and action packed and I totally enjoyed it. The majority of laughs came from the pair as they constantly try to second guess the other one.

During the school's project week teacher Rainer Wenger attempts to instruct his students about the dangers of fascism and autocracy, stages a bold experiment to show how easily such ideas can originate. Unfortunately the students take the experiment seriously and started causing trouble.
The Wave is a stunning film that really does manage to convey the power of an Autocracy and how someone could be caught up in it. The film became more and more interesting as it progresses and messages conveyed by the film were crystal clear. The direction was good and got some brilliant performances. Chronicle (2012) - 84 min

Chronicle is an American science fiction film directed by Josh Trank.
Starring Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan, Michael Kelly & Ashley Hinshaw.
The movie centers around three characters Andrew, Matt and Steve. The three bonds after they encounter a mysterious object that gives them supernatural powers. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control.
It's a found footage, science-fiction movie and the shaky camera work actually disturbs first few minutes. But the camera work gets better as the movie progresses and some shots were mind blowing. The plot also gets interesting when they use their supernatural powers and the director did a fabulous job in maintaining that pace. Overall, Chronicle is an immensely enjoyable superhero movie and the teen element of the film is handled well.
Verdict: Good

One Wild Moment (2015) - 105 min

One Wild Moment (French: Un moment d'égarement) is a French comedy-drama film directed by Jean-François Richet.
Starring Vincent Cassel, François Cluzet, Alice Isaaz & Lola Le Lann.
Old friends Antoine and Laurent are spending their vacation in Corsica with their daughters Louna and Marie. It was all going well until Louna seduces Laurent. However, things get interesting when Antoine enlists his friend to figure out who is seducing his daughter.
For me it is more comedy than drama. The cinematography was excellent and has a strong screenplay that avoids the usual clichés. Vincent Cassel once again shows his acting ability and portraits the macho father character superbly. On the other hand Francois Cluzet character has so many comic moments which make this film more special. Overall, it's a good entertainer and I really enjoyed it.

Fifty strangers wake up in a dark room, where they are standing in two concentric circles. Each person stands on a red circle and the ones who attempt to leave their individual circles are killed by an external force. The group itself is deciding who lives and who dies.
It's a game of death situation. The way the game plays out and how bad they want to survive the game makes the movie interesting. Anyway, the film keeps the suspense alive. It also shows about human selfishness and some social factors. Overall, it's a decent thriller that holds your attention easily.

It's a full on entertainer. The car chases are superbly done and shot and bring excitement to the story. The cast are likeable, even if the subplots tend to take over at times. There’s a pretty nice soundtrack throughout the movie. Anyway, Adam Sandler dupe was cool and Dhoom Hindi film is inspired from this movie.

Lucas, a teacher who had to work temporarily as a kindergarten assistant due to a school closure, recently divorced, but with many deer-hunting buddies and a cheerful participant in all the local traditions. But things go horribly wrong for Lucas because of an innocent lie.
It's a shocking story and difficult to guess how we may behave in a similar situation. This film illustrates the consequences of living in a closed community, How a little lie can affect a person's life and shows the mentality of people towards that lie. A gripping performance from Mikkelsen makes it a must watch movie.

Casablanca (1942) - 102 min

Casablanca is an American romantic drama film directed by Michael Curtiz.

One of the transit letters was for his old lover Ilsa and her husband is a famed rebel. The only one who can help them to escape from this country is Rick.
One of the best classic love story that ever told. Bogart and Bergman were the two names that come to my mind when anyone talks about this movie. It's a perfect casting from the director and Bogart's dialogue delivery and his mannerism were fascinating. Bergman portraits the role of Ilsa and the film has some haunting songs. Overall, it's a must watch classic movie and highly recommended to true movie lovers.

Drug War (2012) - 110 min

Drug War (Chinese: Du zhan) is a Chinese-Hong Kong crime thriller film directed Johnnie To.

It tells the story of the uneasy partnership between Anti-Drug Unit police officer Zhang Lei and drug lord turned rat, Tin-ming Choi. Facing the death penalty on drug charges, Choi bargains with Zhang, offering up the entire regional drug network in exchange for a reduced sentence.
The background score and the climax scenes were outstanding. The film's midsection seems to be kind of slow pace which makes it a little dim. Otherwise, it could have been a better film. Overall, it's a watchable movie with some heavy gun shots towards the end.

Under the Shadow (2016) - 80 min

Under the Shadow is an internationally co-produced horror film directed by Babak Anvari.
Starring Narges Rashidi, Avin Manshadi, Bobby Naderi & Ray Haratian.
Tehran, 1988. Shideh looks after her daughter Dorsa while her husband Iraj, a doctor working for the military who has been assigned to an area of heavy fighting. As Iraqi missiles fall on the city, Dorsa insists they are being haunted by a supernatural creature called a djinn.
It is amazing to consider that this is Manshadi's debut. Shot in just 21 days with a limited budget, Under The Shadow is far better than what you anticipated. Narges Rashidi is captivating, while first time actress Avin Manshadi was fabulous with her role as a child faced with incomprehensible evil. There were some pretty good jump scare moments. Overall, it's a well executed horror thriller movie and I really enjoyed it.
