The Deep (2012) - 95 min

The Deep (Icelandic: Djúpið) is an Icelandic drama film directed by Baltasar Kormákur.
Starring Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Jóhann G. Jóhannsson, Þorbjörg Helga Þorgilsdóttir, Theodór Júlíusson & María Sigurðardóttir.
Inspired by true events that occurred off Iceland’s volcanic Westman Islands in 1984. A 24 year old  fisherman Gulli and his crew goes for a fishing in a dangerous weather. Unfortunately, that night an accident happens and water started to enter the boat. The only way to survive is to swim which is impossible in that temperature and the freezing Ocean can kill a normal human in 20 minutes.
The visuals convey most of the things in this particular film and strongly presented a normal fishmen's lifestyle and his deep relationships. It is a tribute to Icelandic fishermen and also shows how difficult to survive in Iceland. Kormakur makes it a realistic one without using any special sound effects and CGI was not used in this film means they actually sank the boat. It was selected as the Icelandic entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.
Verdict: Average
