The entire story is told through the eyes of Renato's character and In the beginning, we only know that Malena is a gorgeous lonely woman. Monica Belluci's name is enough to watch this movie and the performance is haunting at the same time. Guiseppe Sulfaro is sweet and charming as Renato. This film opens like comedy - fascination thing and ends up with some serious notes. Tornatore's direction was very effective and his story telling way is also catchy. Overall, it's a beautiful movie and entirely different approach from Cinema Paradiso film.
