In 1966, a law was passed banning abortion in Romania. The story took place in 1987, Roommates Gabita and Otilia is planning to meet a man named Bebe to obtain an illegal abortion. If they get caught during the procedure, the outcome will be 12 years in prison.
It won the Palm D'Or at the 2007 Cannes film festival and due to the subject it made controversy at the time of nomination for the Oscar category. One of the specialties of the movie is the camera remains steady in most of the time and the characters move in and out of the frame which is cool to watch. Cristian Mungiu crafted a movie that literally breaks your heart when you saw a particular scene towards the final act. Overall, it's an occasionally thrilling movie that tells the story of an illegal abortion attempt and sometimes drama can be effective.
Verdict: Good
