Jar City (Icelandic: Mýrin) is a Icelandic film directed by Baltasar Kormákur.
Starring Ingvar E. Sigurðsson, Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Ólafía Hrönn Jónsdóttir & Atli Rafn Sigurðsson.
An old man named Holberg was murdered in his basement apartment. After searching the whole room, a photograph of a child's grave was found and that child was Aude who died of a brain tumor in 1974 at the age of 6. Iceland Cop, Erlendur and his colleagues start an investigation to find what was the link between Holberg and the child who died three decades before.
The film has won many awards and this is the first time I am watching an Icelandic language movie. To be frank, it's an entirely different experience for me and the soundtrack used in the film was kind of Enigma style. The cinematography was haunting and aerial shots were my favorite. The film has a slight touch of creating tension and thriller atmosphere. Overall, it's a dark, realistic crime movie and watchable too.
Verdict: Average
