The Tunnel (German: Der Tunnel) is a German film directed by Roland Suso Richter.
Starring Heino Ferch, Nicolette Krebitz, Sebastian Koch, Alexandra Lara & Mehmet Kurtuluş.
Harry Melchior a national champion who previously served four years in prison escapes to the West Germany shortly after the Wall is completed. He's forced to leave behind his beloved sister Lotte. Harry rejoins his oldest friend, Matthis an engineer whose wife, Carola is in East Germany jail. They decide to make a 145-yard underground tunnel to getting their loved ones out of East Germany.
Director Roland Suso Richter nicely executed the emotional connection between each character and their capture or betrayal creates tension throughout. Cinematographer Martin Langer did a vital duty in this movie by capturing tunnel chases with flashlights and also making a claustrophobic environment. Overall, it's a very touching movie and this story has really happened in Berlin.
Verdict: Good
