Sleepwalking Land (2007) - 97 min

Country: Mozambique
Director: Teresa Prata
Cast: Nick Lauro Teresa, Aldino José, Hélio Fumo, Ilda Gonzalez & Laura Soveral.
Muidinga is searching for his family with the help of an Old man, Tuahir. They wander around the landscape of Mozambique with dead bodies all over the place. Muidinga finds a journal belonging to a dead man whose body was found nearby.
Based on Mia Couto’s 1992 novel, Sleepwalking Land follows the adventure story of 11-year-old Muidinga who is desperate to find his family. There are two narratives in the movie and a slight touch of fairy tale makes it a good African cinema to watchThis movie has won several awards and one among them is IFFK 2007 Award for the Best Film in competition. Even though the story revolves around a kid, there are few weird moments of teen sexuality which is not acceptable at all. Don't know why they include that scene in the movie, the rest of the film is good. Overall, It's an enjoyable(except that particular scene) movie that blends magical realism to narrate a realistic socio-political scenario in African countries.
Verdict: Good
