എറിക് ബാന നായകനായി എത്തുന്ന ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയൻ മിസ്റ്ററി ഡ്രാമ ചിത്രമാണ് ദി ഡ്രൈ. 2016ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ജെയ്ൻ ഹാർപ്പറിന്റെ ഇതേ പേരിലുള്ള പുസ്തകത്തെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയാണ് ഈ ചിത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയൻ ബോക്‌സ് ഓഫീസിൽ വിജയം നേടിയ ചിത്രത്തിന് നല്ല പ്രതികരണമാണ് പൊതുവേ ലഭിച്ചത്. ഇൻവെസ്റ്റിഗേഷൻ സിനിമകൾ താല്പര്യമുള്ളവർക്ക് കാണാവുന്ന നല്ലൊരു ഓസ്ട്രേലിയൻ ചിത്രം തന്നെയാണ് ദി ഡ്രൈ.

ഈ സിനിമ തിയേറ്ററിൽ നിന്ന് കാണാനൊരു അവസരം കിട്ടിയതായിരുന്നു, പക്ഷേ കണ്ടില്ല കാരണം സിനിമയെക്കാലും Mad Max എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തെ സ്നേഹിച്ചുപോയി. Mel Gibson ന് പകരം മറ്റൊരു നടനെ Mad Max ആയിട്ട് കാണാൻ താൽപര്യമില്ലായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ കുറച്ച് നാളുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം വീട്ടിലിരുന്ന് പടം കണ്ടു. പിന്നീട് ടിവിയിൽ കണ്ടു, അതിനുശേഷം Black & Chrome വേർഷൻ കണ്ടു. കാണാൻ കിട്ടുന്ന അവസരം ഒന്നും തന്നെ പാഴാക്കുന്നില്ല ഇതിലും കൂടുതൽ ഈ സിനിമയെക്കുറിച്ച് എന്ത് സംസാരിക്കാനാണ്.
സംവിധായകൻ ഈ സിനിമ Black & Chrome വേർഷനിൽ തന്നെ തിയേറ്ററിൽ ഇറക്കാൻ ഇരുന്നത്, പക്ഷേ മുടക്കിയ പണം കിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് തോന്നിയതുകൊണ്ട് ആ പരിപാടി വേണ്ടെന്നുവച്ചു. എന്തായാലും പടം ബോക്സ് ഓഫീസ് കളക്ഷൻ തൂത്തുവാരിയപ്പോൾ Black & Chrome വേർഷനും തിയേറ്ററിൽ റിലീസ് ചെയ്തു. ഈ സിനിമ കാണാത്തവർ ആരും തന്നെ ഉണ്ടാകില്ല, Black & Chrome വേർഷൻ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലെങ്കിൽ അതൊന്നു കണ്ടു നോക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ഈ സിനിമ തീയേറ്ററിൽ നിന്ന് കണ്ടവരോട് അസൂയ ഒന്നുമില്ല, എന്നാലും രണ്ടും മൂന്നും തവണ IMAXൽ നിന്നൊക്കെ കണ്ട കാര്യം പറയുമ്പോൾ ഒരു ചെറിയ അസൂയ.

Jungle (2017) - 115 min

Yossi Ghinsberg എന്ന സാഹസിക യാത്രികൻ 1981ൽ നടത്തിയ യാത്രയുടെ ചലച്ചിത്രാവിഷ്കാരമാണ് ഈ സിനിമ. Yossi Ghinsberg ആയി സിനിമയിൽ അഭിനയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് Daniel Radcliffe ആണ്.
അന്നും ഇന്നും Daniel Radcliffe നെ കാണാൻ ഒരു പയ്യന്റെ ലുക്കാണ്, അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ഇതുപോലെയുള്ള കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ പുള്ളിക്ക് അനുയോജ്യമാകുമോന്ന് സംശയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. സിനിമയുടെ തുടക്കം മുതൽ ആ സംശയം മനസ്സിനെ അലട്ടുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു, എന്നാൽ അവസാന പത്ത് മിനിറ്റ് പ്രേക്ഷകൻ എന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് വളരെയധികം സന്തോഷം തോന്നിയ നിമിഷങ്ങളായിരുന്നു. അത് ശരിക്കും Radcliffe ന്റെ വിജയമാണ് അത്രയും നേരം നമ്മളെ ആ യാത്രയിൽ പിടിച്ചിരുത്താൻ Radcliffe ന് സാധിച്ചു. യാത്രകൾ ഇഷ്ടമുള്ളവർക്കും survival മൂവീസ് താല്പര്യമുള്ളവർക്കും കാണാൻ പറ്റിയ സിനിമയാണ് Jungle.

Animal Kingdom (2010) - 113 min

Joshua finds his mother died of an overdose and called his grandmother to come over. She invites Joshua to her home where his uncles live. The cops are looking for an opportunity to nail down his uncles.
Animal Kingdom is loosely inspired by the Walsh Street police murders in 1988 Writer-director David Michod makes the movie unpredictable from the start and never know what happens next. The casting looks rich, David Michod can do whatever he likes when he got guys like Joel Edgerton and Guy Pearce on board. You will hate some characters for sure, especially Ben Mendelsohn and Jacki Weaver's characters. Credit goes to them to fully immerse into their roles and Jacki Weaver was nominated for Best Supporting Actress category at the 83rd Academy Awards. Overall, This Australian gangster movie is an unsentimental crime movie to watch and more brutal than his 'The Rover' movie.

Berlin Syndrome (2017) - 116 min

Clare, a photographer from Australia meets a German teacher, Andi while exploring the streets of Berlin. After their physical encounter, Clare finds herself locked in the apartment and the windows were reinforced.
Adapted from Melanie Joosten's 2011 novel of the same name, it tells the story of a woman who constantly search for an opportunity to break free. Teresa Palmer does an excellent job in swinging the normal nature of her character into a sexual material for survival. Like any other sociopath, Riemelt also shows the same mannerism which is not likeable at all. Cate Shortland creates the claustrophobic ambience of being held as a hostage by providing enough moments to satisfy. The music by Bryony Marks works perfectly on each scene. Overall, it's not a sensational movie, but definitely a terrifying story to watch.
Verdict: Good

The Reef (2010) - 94 min

The Reef is an Australian horror film directed by Andrew Traucki.
Starring Damian Walshe-Howling, Zoe Naylor, Gyton Grantley & Adrienne Pickering.
It tells the story of Four friends who reunite for a boating trip and unfortunately due to a bad tide their boat collapses. The only way to survive is to swim and what happens when they spot a shark in the ocean.
The underwater filming was very cool to watch and it creates tension all the times when the lead character looks for the shark in the ocean. Andrew Traucki nicely handles the true story without adding the usual cliches of a shark movie. Overall, it's a small realistic thriller movie and don't expect a typical shark movie from this one.
Verdict: Average

Oddball (2015) - 95 min

Oddball is a Australian family film directed by Stuart McDonald.
Starring Shane Jacobson, Coco Jack Gillies, Sarah Snook & Alan Tudyk.
It’s based on the true story of a sheepdog that became the protector of a penguin sanctuary. On Middle Island off the coast of Warrnambool, little penguins are running out. If numbers fall below ten it loses its status as a sanctuary. In order to save sanctuary, Swampy teams up with his granddaughter to train their dog, Oddball to protect the penguins from foxes.
It's a cute little movie that shows the importance of environmental preservation and Damian Wyvill’s cinematography captures the whole scenes beautifully. The main attraction of the movie is Oddball and Stuart delivers a movie that actually makes you happy in the end. Overall, it's a lovely adventure family ride and it's worth a shot for those who are looking for a happy ending movies.
