Asura: The City of Madness (Korean: Asura) is a South Korean crime thriller film directed by Kim Sung-su.
Starring Jung Woo-sung, Hwang Jung-min, Ju Ji-hoon, Kwak Do-won & Jung Man-sik.
Han Do-kyung is a corrupted detective, who actually works for Mayor Park, whose dirty works are handled by Han. Unfortunately, Han is pressured by a ruthless prosecutor Kim Cha-in to cooperate in an investigation against the mayor. Caught up in a ruthless situation, Han is forced to make an exit strategy.
The film tells the story of corruption and how it affects the government, law and media. The director Kim Song Soo executed the power struggle between all the main characters superbly. The cinematographer was good and the performances are all top notch, especially Jung Woo. The excessive use of violence in every scene and the blood shed towards the ending scenes were kind of usual Korean style. Overall, it's a watchable dark crime thriller.
Verdict: Average
