Mustang (2015) - 95 min

Country: France
Director: Deniz Gamze Ergüven
Cast: Güneş Şensoy, Doğa Doğuşlu, Elit İşcan, Tuğba Sunguroğlu & İlayda Akdoğan
After the class, Lale and her older sisters were playing on a beach with their male classmates. Unfortunately, a villager informs this to their grandmother and the family home turns into a prison situation. All their facilities to communicate with their friends are removed and the arrangements are started by their grandmother to marry them off, one by one.
This film shows the importance of freedom and also deals with the negative effect of patriarchy. The girls approach to this prison situation makes the film engaging. The film has got a violent response from Turkey people and the director and cast have been threatened by some people. The film was nominated for best foreign film in 88th Academy awards and the interesting thing is the nomination came from France. Overall, it's a well executed drama and highly recommended.
Verdict: Great
