The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) - 111 min

The Girl with All the Gifts is a British horror drama film directed by Colm McCarthy.
Starring Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, Glenn Close, Sennia Nanua & Anamaria Marinca.
Dr Caldwell is working in a military prison to find a cure for an infectious disease which turns human hosts into Zombies. In that prison, each cell contains an infected child and Melanie is the smartest of them all. If an ordinary human gets too close to them, they started to behave differently. Sgt Parks keeps them under locked room and in order to analysis their skills they have daily school lessons provided by teacher Miss Justineau. Dr Caroline Caldwell conducts her experiments on this childrens to find an antidote to the disease.
Sennia Nanua portraits the role of Melanie, as a newcomer she shows an immense amount of feelings in her role. Visually, Director McCarthy provides a sense of fear in some scenes and it's not that kind of a horror movie that can provide jump scares. On the positive side the film has a haunting music that pops up in some scenes was my favorite scenes. Zombie movies only work if it has new concepts to say, in that sense it works because this film tells the story of second generation zombies. Overall, it's a variety coming-of-age story from Colm McCarthy and a watchable survival thriller flick.
Verdict: Average
