Voice of a Murderer (2007) - 120 min

Voice of a Murderer (Korean: Geunom moksori) is a South Korean crime thriller film directed by Park Jin-pyo.
Starring Sol Kyung-gu, Kim Nam-joo, Kim Yeong-cheol, Song Young-chang & Go Soo-hee.
The film tells the true story of the kidnapping of nine-year-old Lee Hyung-ho in South Korea in 1991. Han Kyung Bae is a successful news anchor, but his quiet life comes crashing down when his son gets kidnapped. Next day the kidnapper calls him and asked for a ransom. After that, the whole Kidnapping thing changes to a cat-and-mouse game.
The film failed to create tension and pace of the plot also lags sometimes. However, director Jin-pyo Park efforts cannot be denied in adapting a true story. He always gave importance to this kidnapping event and how the family plays out the situation. Voice of a Murderer is one of the underrated movie from South Korea and It's not a straight-up thriller like Memories of Murder.

As the day goes on, the group finds themselves fighting for their lives and trying to find a way off the island.
Like most horror movies the story is kind of usual type and the only thing that matters here is intelligent dogs. The suspense, stunt set pieces and scare bits were all handled with skill that makes it a watchable flick. It’s a battle for survival and it's thrilling too. Overall, it's worth a shot to those who like picnic survival movies.

His only ambition is to win a gold medal for India, but when his wife gives birth to four daughter's, he assumes his dream is finished. One day he realizes his daughter's strength and he decides to train them.
I don't know what to write about this movie. I can still feel the goosebumps it caused me and emotional wise it's also effective. Most of the family scenes look convincing and felt like it's a live telecasting. I don't think this is the best performance of Aamir Khan's till date and it's my personal opinion because I have seen most of his work.
All the credits go to the whole cast. Aamir khan's body transformation and also lead ladies who trained for six months to perform wrestling scenes shows the dedication towards the film. The performances delivered by Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar as the young Geeta and Babita were outstanding and Tiwari was very good in wrestling sequences. Overall, it's the best Bollywood movie that I have seen in 2016 and try to watch it in the theatre.

Nocturnal Animals (2016) - 115 min

Nocturnal Animals is an American neo-noir psychological thriller film directed by Tom Ford.
Starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Isla Fisher.
Susan is a successful and unhappily married gallery owner. One day Susan's ex-husband, Edward sends his latest unpublished novel "Nocturnal Animals" to her. Edward used to call Susan a 'nocturnal animal' and the novel is dedicated to her. The novel was actually a surprise to her because she hasn't heard from him for 20 years.
It's a tricky one "A story within a story" kind of stuff. Both Gylenhaal and Amy Adams were spectacular in their roles. The film tells about the revenge of the past on the present and the present on the past. It has a depth story and also tells three stories Susan's present life, Susan's flashbacks and the novel story. It's not everyone's cup of tea and trust me, you can't crack the story till it ends. Overall, it's a unique film and one of the best movies of 2016.

The Wailing (2016) - Explained

THE WAILING EXPLAINED 2016 (MY VERSION)

Story intro: Jong-Goo is a police sergeant awakened early morning with a call about a double homicide. When he arrives at the scene, he finds the family's been stabbed to death by a young man who sits on the side and his skin is covered in boils. He finds out a dried flower hanging in the door. The conclusion made by police and doctors is they are poisoned by a wild mushroom. A  Few days later a story pops up that a mysterious Japanese guy is behind all this who lives in the mountains.

Second murder scene - Murderer was a woman and detective investigates about it and from a coffee shop guy he learns that Japanese guy tries to rape the same women once and after that she lost her mind and walks naked in the night. While in the duty near the murder place detective meets with the white lady who throws rocks to his side. Later she tells him that Japanese guy is the reason for all this murder case.

Detective's partner Cho told Jong-Goo during the investigation that a guy named Byeong Jae has seen the Japanese guy in devil form and they went to see him. After collecting the information they all went to the mountains where Byeong Jae has seen the Japanase guy first time. Unfortunately Byeong Jae was hit by a thunder. A few days later, Jong's daughter shows the same symptoms of disease.

He and his partner went to the mountain again with the help of a priest and finds some vital clues about this mysterious things happening in the village. His daughter's condition gets worse, so he went to Japanese guy's home(2nd time) with anger and kills his dog. Next Jong-Goo was unable to move because the Japanese guy did a  black magic and hang the dog in front of the detective's house. His mother in law hired a shaman(ll-Gwang) to help them from this situation.

Now we will discuss about the character's and what they did.

JONG-GOO (DETECTIVE):

He and his partner Cho visits the Japanese guy's house (1st time) with a priest. Cho was possessed by the evil spirit and later kills his wife.

He stops the exorcism conducted by Shaman in his house (After effect shaman starts to change). He and his friends goes to the Japanese guy's home (3rd time) to kill him and end up with Park Chon Bae (the driver zombie).

They kill him and spot the Japanese guy near it and Japanese guy escapes from them. While heading to home there car accidentally hits the Japanese guy and they throw him down the cliff.

Now the detective did another sin. When he reaches his home, his daughter is fully captured by the evil spirit. Shaman calls him and tells the white lady is the evil. In the final scenes, white lady tells him not to enter the house and wait till the rooster crows three times. But he doesn't believe it and she touches his hand and he saw a flashback of victims dress that white lady wears in some scenes and also seen his daughter's headpin in the road.

Finally, he believes that the shaman was right. He enters the house and his daughter kills the family members. The evil spirit already influenced him so his daughter leaves him and sits outside the house.

WHITE LADY:

From the starting of the movie, she builds many traps in order to catch the Japanese guy. The dried flower trap is the one that am talking about which was found in the first murder scene by Jong-Goo. She was wearing Park Chon Bae's shirt (the zombie driver) when she meets Jong-Goo for the first time.

Park Chon Bae was one of the murderers of a crime scene (He murdered his whole family). She tried to help him too, Unfortunately, that attempt failed.

She tries to stop the detectives to not enter the mountain. The thunder thing was her trick. If they enter an evil place, then its hard to control their mind.

Another trick was to counter attack the exorcism did by Japanese guy and succeed in making the driver zombie to go against the Japanese guy. Like Japanese guy & Shaman, she also collects the belongings of people whom the evil spirit targets in order to help them. She tries to help Hyo-Jin(Daughter of Jong-Goo) and that's why she put crow in the pot to protect(which was later destroyed by Shaman). After the exorcism battle she passes through the Japanese guy's house and watch him lying on the ground.

Next day she saw Japanese guy hiding in the mountains and he is weak so he runs away. She doesn't believe shaman that's why she attacks him when he came to see Jong-Goo. After the exorcism conducted by shaman, he starts to look like a devil. In the final scenes she tells the detective that he did some sins like throwing the Japanese guy and some other. The only way to protect his family is to obey her instructions. Detective disagrees the instructions and enters his house. The trap setted by the white lady dries and she cries because of another failed attempt to trap the evil.

JAPANESE GUY:

He curses an item that belongs to the person he targets. After that, the person suffers from a skin disease and begins to act crazy. The sinned persons and dead bodies photos were taken by him lately.

He does an exorcism in order to rob the spirit of a dead body( driver lying in the vehicle) and gets hurt by the process because the white lady did another trick.

After that, he became weak and that's the reason he cries while hiding in the mountains when the detective and his friends tries to attack him.

After detective enters his house the Japanese guy retains his strength and shows the priest his true nature.

Another interesting thing about the film is the river fishing first scene. There are two hooks and one worm in his hands. The concept lies in it the two hooks are Japanese guy and white lady. The worm refers to the village people. The villagers decide their own faith by choosing the right and wrong sides.

SHAMAN:

He is hired by the family to do an exorcism. His intensions are good but his exorcism always make the situations difficult. He is the one who destroys the pot trick of white lady (pot trick was white lady's idea to protect the child from Japanese guy).

The exorcism done by shaman was to protect the girl from Japanese guy. Jong-Goo stops his exorcism and that negatively affect him.

He was trying to enter the detectives house where the white lady already setted a trap for the evil spirit. In order to prevent him from entering the house she did a trick on him to vomit blood.

He then return to his home and checks if he is ok with the candle lights. One of it sheds and a crow falls which makes him clear that he is hunted by an evil spirit.

He calls the detective and tells him the white lady is the evil spirit. The fear of the white lady's attack encounters him and it was very easy for evil spirit to control him now. In the end scene, he starts to work for an evil spirit.

(N.B - Whatever ideas come to you while you  watch the film, they're yours. This film has infinite plot and each time you watch it, you will come up with new stories.)

At the End of the Tunnel (2016) - 120 min

At the end of the tunnel (Spanish: Al final del túnel) is a Argentine thriller film directed by Rodrigo Grande.

Joaquin lives alone in his big house and he is in a wheelchair, so he decides to rent his upstairs room. Within a short time he got new renters a young mother and her little child. Joaquin starts to spend more time in his basement studio and hears some strange noises one day. With the aid of a stethoscope he learns that a gang is planning to rob the bank that situates near his house.
Technically, it’s a very strong movie and beautifully captured both the above and below ground sequences. There’s a good chemistry between Leonardo Sbaraglia and Clara Lago. Without wasting time and dialogues the director brilliantly shows the flashback story of Joaquin. The plot is built slowly so there is enough time to know the characters completely and how Joaquin deal with this robbery situation makes the movie interesting. Overall, it’s a nicely executed robbery movie and a thrilling ride too.

Fermat's Room (Spanish: La habitación de Fermat) is a Spanish thriller film directed by Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopeña.

Four mathematicians were invited into a remote old warehouse by a mysterious host in order to solve a complex mathematical problem. No sooner the puzzle begins which must be answered within 60 seconds to keep the room steady otherwise it's going to shrink.
First of all, it's not a violent game movie like “Cube” or “Saw”. It's a puzzle thriller and the concept is simple - To survive, they should solve puzzles. Visually, the film is impressive and keeps the tension factor alive. Most of the scenes took place in a single room and the claustrophobic feeling was evident in each scene. Overall, it's a fast paced thriller and I really enjoyed it.

Both Andoni Gracia and Monica Lopez were very convincing in their roles. The story is not that simple and if you are looking for a mind blowing ride, just go for it. The background scores used to create the suspense scenes and the way the whole movie shoots were actually impressive and kind of hard to digest it's the directorial debut of Guillem Morales. Overall, the story shifts drastically and make sure you are not lost in the story.

While in the phone booth, he finds a strange newspaper article in the phone cabin which is about a tragic accident that's going to happen in few minutes.
It's an entirely different approach to the horror genre and execution of the story was kind of interesting. Tsuruta's direction is stylish and creates a dark atmosphere throughout. The plot is based on a manga "Kyoufu Shinbun" ("Newspaper of Terror") by Jiro Tsunoda published in 1973. It doesn't really feel like a horror movie, even though there are some jump scary scenes. The Magnificent Seven (1960) & (2016) - 130 min

The Magnificent Seven (1960) is an American Western film directed by John Sturges. Starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, Horst Bucholz & Eli Wallach.
The Magnificent Seven (2016) is an American western film directed by Antoine Fuqua. Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Peter Sarsgaard & Haley Bennett.
STORY: A group of seven gunfighters hired to protect a small village farmers in Mexico from a group of brutal people who are stealing everything from them.
CHARACTER ANALYSIS:
LEADER OF THE SEVEN: Yul Brynner portraits the role of Chris Adams, a gunslinger and the mannerism and the way he sounds makes it clear that he is better than Denzel. On the other hand, Denzel Washington as Sam Chisholm was not quite impressive.
THE DRIFTER: Steve McQueen portraits the cool drifter role of Vin Tanner superbly. But Chris Pratt as Joshua Faraday has got so much things in his pockets, he is a gambler and a ladies man with a fondness for explosives. Anyway, he did a fine job.
THE TRAUMATIZED VETERAN: Robert Vaughn as Lee was a grounded role. Interestingly Ethan Hawke as Goodnight Robicheaux got more important role than Robert. He was a sharpshooter and now fears to shoot because of his past and how he overcomes this situation were nicely done by Hawke.
THE KNIFE EXPERT: Both there intro scenes were same. James Coburn role of Brit was tough and he uses knives only few scenes. Lee Byung-hun as Billy Rocks is an assassin who likes to use knives all the time and he has got a more important role than James Coburn.
THE FORTUNE SEEKER: Brad Dexter as Harry Luck is another grounded role and he is searching for treasures. In the 2016 edition the role has changed a little bit Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Vasquez is a Mexican outlaw who has been on the run for several months.
THE PROFESSIONAL: Charles Bronson as Bernardo O'Reilly needed money and he is found of children. In the 2016 edition Vincent D'Onofrio as Jack Horne is a tracker and he mainly concentrates on actions.
THE KID: Horst Buchholz portraits the role of Chico who tries to prove himself as a heroic fighter and he was far better than Martin. When it comes to the latest edition Martin Sensmeier as Red Harvest is an upgraded version and a specialist in arrow.
VILLAIN: Eli Wallach as Calvera is more convincing than Peter's villain role and he is very good in negative roles. Peter Sarsgaard as Bartholomew Bogue tries his best, but failed miserably in executing the role.
The theme of the films are same, but there are few changes in the storyline. The running time of both the films is same. Action wise 2016 edition is better and it's a visual treat. Both the film has a good cast and different background scores. The 1960 movie is more convincing that the latest and It's looks more real to me. The Magnificent Seven (1960) is a classic movie and the remake version was very good in executing the action scenes. Overall, both are good movies in their own aspects.

It's a well directed Spanish thriller movie. The film has some unnecessary scenes which drags the story in some places and also contains loop holes. Don't expect jump scare scenes from this film because of the horror label. Anyway the film creates some tense scenes that were shot in a dark atmosphere. This is the second time am watching this movie and I don't remember it in the first place. The three leading actors did a good job in portraying their roles. It's kind of cool thing if I found a camera that can predict my future. It's an entertaining movie and set almost entirely in a standard apartment. The movie does an excellent job in casting the three comedic actors together and the love triangle that develops among these characters were wonderful to watch.  While both leading men clearly provided all the entertainment and the irritating role was handled by Im Su-Jeong. Overall, the movie is about both Doo Hyun and Jung In’s inability to communicate with each other about the important stuff.
